I'm back

Oh dear, it's been a while

Firsly I should say I'm sorry for neglecting my DA account for the last few months. I've had so much going on with work and home life I've hardly had the time to think about DA or even taking photos to be honest. I'm happy to say I'm back (check my gallery) and now have put aside the time to get fully committed to my photography (and of course DA)

While I'm on the dA topic I'd like to say thank you so very much to all the people that visit my page, :+fav: my work and :+devwatch: me. 3000 page views already woohoo!

Merry Christmas and a happy new year

I know I'm late by a week (almost) but to everyone here on dA I hope Santa was good to you and may the new year bring nothing but happiness to all.

40D Problems

As I mentioned in my last entry my brand spanking new 40D caused me some problems and I thought I had it narrowed down to being a faulty CF card. Ohh how wrong I was. Every time I tried to take a burst of photos in RAW I'd end up with an err99 forcing a reboot and loss of that set of shots. I had this card replaced with a Sandisk and all seemed to be ok for a while. then I noticed my 40D will not shoot more then about 12 frames in a row on the ultra high speed setting even in JPG mode (meant to be 70 in a burst). I thought this may have also been related to the CF card but it seems it's another problem with my camera.

I was asked to shoot a friends 3yo birthday party. 40D with 17-85mm IS and 580EX attached I found more problems. Firstly ETTL was out of control. I had random photos grossly over exposed and then the next would look like the flash hadn't fired at all. I thought maybe it was my batteries so I replaced them and continued on only to have the error99 come back to haunt me.
After rebooting a few times I lost all ability to auto focus. pressing of the trigger did absolutely nothing. Another reboot and all was ok for 20ish photos before the error99 returned.
I contacted the store I bought it from and they replaced it for me no questions asked. I wish now that I had sent it back at the very first error.

So, how's the new one?

PERFECT! thanks for asking. I've rattled off about 1500 photos with the new body and not had a single complaint.

Another L series (YAY)

Just before xmas I made the plunge into a new L series lens. Canon 100-400mm f/4-5.6 IS. I'm wishing I bought this a LONG time ago. All my latest bird photos have been taken using this lens and I've gotta say I'm in love.

What I had to say to you, moreover, would not take long, to wit: Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow.
